Industrial Grade 99% Barium Chloride BaCl2 White crystal for Chemical Materials
Physical Properties
- Appearance: Colorless or white crystalline solid
- Molecular weight: 244.26 g/mol (BaCl₂*2H₂O)
- Density: 3.097 g/cm³ (25°C)
- Melting point: about 120°C (loss of crystal water), anhydrous barium chloride melting point is 962°C
- Solubility: Soluble in water, solubility increases significantly with temperature (about 37 g/100 mL water at 20°C)
- Hygroscopicity: Barium chloride dihydrate is stable in air, but anhydrous barium chloride has strong hygroscopicity
Chemical Properties
- Stability: Stable at room temperature, but when heated to about 120°C it loses its crystal water and transforms into anhydrous barium chloride (BaCl₂)
- Acid-alkaline: The aqueous solution is neutral
- Reactivity: Reacts with sulfate ions (SO₄²⁻) to form white barium sulfate (BaSO₄) precipitation (commonly used to detect sulfate ions)
- Reacts with chromate ions (CrO₄²⁻) to form yellow barium chromate (BaCrO₄) precipitation
- Reacts with carbonate ions (CO₃²⁻) to form white barium carbonate (BaCO₃) precipitation
Main Uses
- Laboratory reagents: Used to detect sulfate, chromate, and carbonate ions; as a buffer or standard substance
- Industrial Applications: Used in manufacture of other barium compounds (barium carbonate, barium sulfate), water treatment, metal heat treatment and ceramic industry
