Regarding the role of sodium tripolyphosphate in wastewater treatment
1. As a detergent aid: In industrial or domestic wastewater, it can combine with metal ions such as calcium and magnesium in the water to soften the water quality, thereby enhancing the efficiency of cleaning agents and decontaminants.
2. Provide alkalinity: When dissolved in water, it becomes alkaline, which helps maintain the pH value required by the wastewater treatment system, creating a suitable environment for the growth of microorganisms and chemical reactions.
3. Prevent scaling: By combining with scaling cations (such as calcium and magnesium), it can effectively prevent the formation of scale in pipes and equipment, keeping the system unobstructed.
4. Disperse suspended matter: It can disperse the colloidal particles and suspended matter in the wastewater, preventing their aggregation and sedimentation, which is beneficial for the subsequent solid-liquid separation process.
5. As a phosphorus source: In the biological treatment process, it can serve as a source of phosphorus required for microbial growth, but the dosage must be strictly controlled to prevent the total phosphorus content in the effluent from exceeding the limit.
