The role of sodium tripolyphosphate in water treatment

1.Scale inhibitor (anti-scaling effect)
Chelated calcium and magnesium ions
STPP can form soluble complexes with metal ions such as Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ in water, preventing them from combining with carbonate and sulfate ions to form scale (such as CaCO₃ and CaSO₄).

Dispersed suspended particles
By adsorbing onto the surface of tiny particles, it prevents their deposition and scaling, keeping equipment such as pipelines, boilers, and heat exchangers clean.

2. Corrosion inhibitor (Anti-corrosion effect)
Passivate the metal surface
STPP can form a protective film on the surface of metals such as iron and copper, slowing down the corrosion caused by oxygen and chloride ions.

Synergistic enhancement:
It is often used in combination with zinc salts and silicates to enhance the corrosion inhibition effect.

Cooling water systems in power plants and chemical plants

Central air conditioning circulating water

3. Dispersants and suspensions
Stable colloidal particles
Through the effect of charge repulsion, it prevents the aggregation and sedimentation of sludge, rust and other particles, facilitating subsequent filtration or sewage discharge.

Reduce sediment
It is used for pretreatment before sewage treatment to reduce the risk of pipeline blockage.

4. Soften hard water
Alternative ion exchange resin:
In washing or industrial processes, STPP can temporarily soften hard water and improve cleaning efficiency (but it is gradually being replaced by phosphorus-free alternatives).

5. Auxiliary agents for sewage treatment
Chemical phosphorus removal

【 Performance Characteristics 】

White granular or powder, showing a density of 0.35-0.90G/CM3, melting point 622 degrees Celsius.

It is easily soluble in water, the aqueous solution is alkaline, and the PH of 1% aqueous solution is 9.7.

It is gradually hydrolyzed into phosphite in water, and has good ionic ability of metal complexation.

It can be complexed with calcium/magnesium/iron and

other metal ions to produce soluble complexes. It softens hard water. As a kind of inorganic surfactant,

it has some properties of organic surfactant.

【 Purpose 】

Mainly used for synthetic detergent as an additive/soap agent and to prevent bar soap grease precipitation and

frosting. It has a strong emulsifying effect on lubricating oil and fat, and can be used to

adjust the PH value of buffer soap liquid, industrial water softener/tanning and

pre-tanning agent/dyeing agent/paint/kaolin/magnesium oxide/calcium carbonate and

other industries to prepare suspension as a dispersant, drilling mud dispersant,

and paper industry as an anti-oil agent.
