Thiourea is an organic sulfur compound with the formula SC(NH2)2 and the structure H2N−C(=S)−NH2. Its structure is similar to urea (H2N−C(=O)−NH2), but oxygen atoms are replaced by sulfur atoms (as the thio prefix implies). The properties of urea and thiourea are very different. Thiourea is an organic synthesis reagent. Thiourea is a broad class of compounds with the formula SC(NHR)(NH2), SC(NHR)2, etc.

• Respiratory protection: When handling powder, wear a dust mask (N95 grade). In poorly ventilated environments, use a gas mask (equipped with an organic vapor filter cartridge). Avoid inhaling dust or vapors produced by heating (decomposition may generate toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide).
