- Soluble in water, insoluble in organic solvents

Water Treatment Applications
1. pH Value Adjustment (Alkaline Buffering)
After dissolving in water, becomes strongly alkaline (pH≈12), which can neutralize acidic wastewater and stabilize system pH.
Applications:
- pH adjustment of boiler water and circulating cooling water to prevent acidic corrosion
- Balancing pH in electroplating/printing and dyeing wastewater treatment
2. Water Softening & Scale Prevention
Reacts with Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ in water to form calcium phosphate/magnesium precipitates, preventing scaling.
Applications:
- Pre-treatment of boiler water to reduce hard scale deposition in heat exchangers and pipes
- Used with other scale inhibitors (e.g., sodium hexametaphosphate) for enhanced effect
3. Suspended Solids Dispersion & Metal Ion Chelation
Disperses colloidal particles to prevent dirt agglomeration and chelates heavy metals (Fe³⁺, Cu²⁺) to reduce equipment corrosion.
Applications: Industrial circulating water systems, reverse osmosis (RO) membrane pretreatment.
4. Cleaning & Decontamination
Decomposes grease and organic matter in alkaline environments, often used as cleaning agent component.
Applications:
- Chemical cleaning of boilers and heat exchangers
- Industrial equipment oil stain removal (requires surfactants)
