Water Treatment Applications
1. Adjust the pH Value (Alkaline Buffering)
Function: After dissolving in water, becomes strongly alkaline (pH≈12), which can neutralize acidic wastewater and stabilize the pH of the system.
Application:
- pH adjustment of boiler water and circulating cooling water to prevent acidic corrosion
- Balancing pH in electroplating/printing and dyeing wastewater treatment
2. Soften Water Quality & Prevent Scale Formation
Function: Reacts with Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ in water to form calcium phosphate/magnesium precipitates, preventing scaling.
Application:
- Pre-treatment of boiler water to reduce the deposition of hard scale in heat exchangers and pipes
- Used in combination with other scale inhibitors (such as sodium hexametaphosphate) to enhance the effect
3. Dispersing Suspended Solids & Chelating Metal Ions
Function:
- Disperse colloidal particles to prevent dirt agglomeration (similar to anhydrous trisodium phosphate)
- Chelate heavy metals such as Fe³⁺ and Cu²⁺ to reduce equipment corrosion
Application: Industrial circulating water systems, pretreatment of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes.
4. Cleaning and Decontamination Assistance
Function: Can decompose grease and organic matter in an alkaline environment and is often used as a component of cleaning agents.
Application:
- Chemical cleaning of boilers and heat exchangers
- Oil stain removal from industrial equipment (requires the use of surfactants)
